One unique thing about Boise Idaho is that we get to fully enjoy Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter seasons. However, during winter season our plants become dormant, look dead and unattractive, leaves pile up and things just don’t look as beautiful or as lively as they tend to look throughout the other parts of the year. Luckily a nice Spring Clean up is all you need to make your yard look beautiful again for the new year.
What actions can Boise residents take to beautify their yards for the start of the new year and what does a Spring Clean Up usually target? There are three main areas I will address today.
- Tree Care
- Planting
- Clean up
Taking Care of Your Trees
Generally speaking, it’s best to prune your trees when they are still dormant, but why? One reason is that warmer weather brings out the bugs and insects love to munch on fresh cut limbs, so taking care of this before the bugs come out of hiding is a good idea. That way they cuts will have time to heal before it’s time for spring growth. Early spring is the best time to do this, when it’s not too hot but not too cold either. Not only is pruning good for the overall health of the trees but it can also improve the look and feel of your yard.
Better visibility means you’ll be able to see what parts of the tree are healthy and what parts might need some extra attention. You’ll also be able to cultivate the aesthetic appeal you’re going for. If you aren’t sure which limbs to cut and which ones to leave, give us a call and we’ll help you get it sorted without delay or danger of losing your precious trees.
Planting
Spring is the time to plant for the year. Whether you are growing vegetables or planting more shrubs and trees to decorate your yard, Spring is typically the time to do it.
Make sure that you check the specific needs of each plant before you plant it. Sometimes plants can be sensitive and require special treatment. Some like to be in shady areas while others prefer as much sun as they can get. Water needs is also a necessary thing to check on before you plant a bunch of plants in the same area.
At Mr Chipp, we know the ins and outs of the majority of plants people like to put in their yards so give us a call if you need some assistance.
Spring Clean Up
Obviously everyone’s favorite part of spring is cleaning up all the leaves and debris left over after the snow clears. At least that’s our favorite part of the year!
Spring is the time to collect all that debris and either remove it from your yard or compost it somewhere discreet.
Another issue to think about, especially in Boise, is weeds. There are multiple ways to spray for weeds. Round Up can be used to kill existing weeds but we also recommend a special method called Pre-Emergent Application. By applying a pre-emergent herbicide in strategic parts of your yard we can stop the growth of weeds before they even start. Early Spring is the best time to apply this so that you can enjoy a weed-free yard for the rest of the year.
